Over Sixty

aesthetics over sixty

As we grow older, especially as we enter our sixties, our skin undergoes more significant changes due to a combination of factors, such as genetics, lifestyle choices and environmental influences. Skin may start to become thinner, more delicate, more prone to bruising and can start to droop in certain areas.  These changes can have a huge effect on our appearance, but thankfully, are easy to get smoothed out.

Come and see us for a free consultation, and we will advise you on the ideal treatment for where you’re at in the ageing process.

What we recommend

treatments

Forehead

Your forehead naturally expands as your hairline recedes. As we grow older, the skin on our forehead undergoes changes due to a combination of factors, such as genetics, lifestyle choices and environmental influences. Skin on your forehead may start to become thinner, more delicate, more prone to bruising and your forehead can start to droop, creating a heavier appearance over your eyes. Brow furrows can also become more prominent as we age.  They can have a huge effect on our appearance, but are easy to get smoothed out.  Botox injections for forehead lines can have a huge impact on the resting expression of your face and are very straight forward, easy treatments with a very natural finished look. Another area to consider is the temple. Filler injections in these hollows can lift the edge of the brow and upper cheeks and smooth the area, giving a soft, more gentle silhouette.

treatments

Eyes

Eye issues can increase with age, and the skin around your eyes may undergo several changes. You can find that your eyelids may droop or develop excess skin known as hooding, and the fat pads that sit under your eyes may get smaller causing hollows or giving you the appearance of having dark circles.  Around the eye your skin is very delicate and this gets even more evident the older we get.  With skin losing its elasticity you may find that your forehead droops a little causing your eyebrows to descend which can give rise to a heavier look and the skin on our upper eyelids starts to sag as the supporting muscles weaken and lose firmness which can give your eyes a droopy or hooded look. I see many clients who want to improve the volume and fat pad issues around the eyes, which they don’t like.   I am experienced at dealing with a huge range of ageing eye issues, and I have a treatment for most concerns!

treatments

Lower Face

I always tell my clients that a loss of bone density at this age is normal, including the lower jawbone, and it is that which contributes to changes in facial structures and the sunken appearance many of my clients do not like!  Fat pads in the face shift and in the lower face this results in a loss of fullness around the mouth and the corners of your mouth start to turn downwards and the main concern that clients refer to is jowls.  Also be aware that teeth are affected by the ageing process and gum recession can impact the appearance of your lower face too. There is plenty that can be done to improve your lower face, jawline and chin and dermal fillers for static lines, volume loss, folds and jowl scan work well.  Fillers can restore a more youthful shape, and fillers to the vermillion border of the lips to restore shape and minimise lipstick bleed are always popular choices.

treatments

mid-face

I always tell my clients it is never too late to start anti-ageing treatments, so don’t think you are past help!  I have seen a huge increase in clients over 60 opting for more aesthetic procedures in the last few years, as much can be done to make you feel more confident and still feel like yourself. Sagging skin and static and dynamic wrinkles are the most common issue, your skin can become delicate and parchment like and as volume gets lost in the temples and cheeks you may find skin appears paler. Increasing volume in your cheeks and midface is a great help to looking good in later years I often add filler into the cheeks or jawline to increase the volume and this is a great way to add more structure and to help to prevent any sagging mid-face skin. Profhilo is an excellent skin boosting treatment to help with skin quality, fine lines and skin laxity

treatments

neck

Connective tissue ligaments and tendons in the neck can lose elasticity and strength as we age, which contributes to a decrease in overall neck support.  This does not help at all with the development of sagging skin and the formation of deep neck wrinkles.  Having a saggy neck can be hereditary but is most often due to ageing, UV damage or weight loss.  Platysmal bands are a natural, if annoying, part of the ageing process as the platysma muscle becomes weakened and causes skin to droop.  The neck has a much thinner layer of skin than your face, so ageing can look more pronounced in this area, and clients often come to me with marked differences in their face and neck tone.  Working out a neck plan is something I do a lot, so don’t feel you are the only one with this issue, I see it a lot at the clinic.

treatments

Lips

Thinning lips is a common issue that affects both men and women.  As we age, our lips and our skin both lose collagen. The gap between the nose and upper lip becomes wider, the philtrum flattens and often the top lip turns in and more prominent vertical perioral (smokers lines) appear. Muscles around your lips also lose tone and can result in a sagging appearance and less lip contouring. Your lips can become thinner and feel drier, and some clients notice they change colour and appear paler than they used to be.  I can add volume back to your lips with fillers, as well as providing hydration. Clients also find that some filler added into any deep lines or wrinkles around the mouth or marionette lines can really make a difference as well, making sure the whole mouth area looks its very best.
